From May 18-22, 2025, the East Asia Business Council (EABC) led a strategic mission to Xinjiang, China in conjunction with the 63rd EABC Meeting. A key event of this trip was the China (Xinjiang)-ASEAN Economic and Trade Exchange Conference, a significant forum co-hosted by the China Chamber of International Commerce and the EABC.
During the conference, EABC Malaysia Member, Tan Sri Dato' Soh Thian Lai, delivered a guest speech on behalf of Tan Sri Azman Hashim, the 2025 Chair of the EABC. His address highlighted important areas for collaboration between East Asian nations, particularly in the context of the modern Silk Road initiative. The event also featured speeches from distinguished guests, including Mr. Wang Gang, Vice Chairman of the People's Government of Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, and Mr. Sun Xiao, Secretary General of the China Chamber of International Commerce (CCOIC).
Beyond the conference, the delegates had the opportunity to visit local factories, which provided valuable insights into the region's business culture. A high-level meeting was also arranged on May 20, where Ma Xingrui, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Autonomous Region, met with both Chinese and foreign guests from the conference and the 63rd Council Meeting of the East Asia Business Council in Urumqi.
